While most fixed awnings are destroyed in hurricanes, all of our retractable awnings roll up quickly and easily when threatened by any high wind. Retractable vs. Fixed Frame

Fixed frame awnings are vulnerable in windstorms, since they can progressively detach from buildings and destroy windows, doors and surrounding property. These awning ‘fragments’ become dangerous airborne missiles of steel pipe and fabric when broken free and driven by hurricane force winds, potentially causing widespread damage and injury.

Building codes now require fixed frame awnings to be able to withstand 75mph winds, and that these awnings include warning labels recommending that the fabric be removed for storms stronger than a Category 1. As a result, fixed frame awning owners are forced to guesstimate the strength of the storm before proceeding with the time-consuming and costly process of cutting the mounting cords, removing and storing the fabric, and then paying heavily to have the fabric reattached after the storm.

Retractable awnings eliminate all this risk and cost plus the feature of having the awning in, out, or anywhere in between. Our retractable awnings are among the strongest and longest lasting in the industry.

Retractable Patio Awnings

Spring-supported “lateral arms” allow the awnings to be attached to buildings or freestanding columns without the need of vertical support posts.

Our motorized awnings have optional sensors that retract the awning automatically if high winds are detected. A manual-override crank is available in the event of power failure. Frames are made from corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy with stainless steel tension cables and fasteners. There are hundreds of fabric choices for every type of application. We offer retractable awnings up to 40’ wide with projections up to 14’.

This variation of our retractable patio awning involves the use of a compact and elegant cassette that houses the awning.

Retractable Boat or Carport Awnings

Our retractable awnings can be used to cover boats or cars using either the wall mount or freestanding post mount versions.

Freestanding Retractable Awnings

For shading solutions where there is no building, we build custom support columns to which the retractable awning can be attached. These columns can be finished in metal, coral, wood, or concrete making them perfect for residential or commercial jobs including sports bleachers.

Retractable Awnings for Sports Bleachers

Retractable bleacher awnings were invented by Hurricane Proof to protect spectators from the hot sun and light rain. Custom aluminum support posts attach the awnings to the bleachers resulting in an integrated system. Conversely these posts can be mounted directly into the ground similar to our Freestanding Retractable Awnings. The bleacher awning fabrics can be made to display the colors and logo of the host school, team or municipality. Separate rolldown shades can be mounted to the back of the support posts for additional rear shade and rain protection. Both our awning and rolldown shades are hurricane resistant due to their rollup features.

Retractable Window and Door Awnings

Our simplest awnings are called “drop arm” retractable awnings in which the fabric rolls up and down on a cylinder mounted above the window and is held away at an angle from the window or door by moving support arms. These retractable awnings are ideal for both shading and rain protection for windows and doors.
